As multi instrumentalist, multi-media artist and improviser, DIRAR KALASH explores open concepts, collective improvisation and open software. Not bound by genres or style, he displays an impressive musical knowledge in which he disappears as an ever morphing chameleon.

Pianist Marta Warelis has a strong preference for improvisation and experiment in all kinds of styles. She continuously aims for instant composing on the basis of new sounds and influences. She was born and raised in Poland, followed the conservatory in Groningen and has found here place in Amsterdam in 2014.

The Kevin McHugh Quartet contains a who's who of the young European jazz scene. Kevin's music springs from cutting edge compositions played with fire, finesse and rebellion in equal measure. In Japan he is active in groups ranging from the experimental music collective Nariiki to noise bands and he also works regularly as a straight ahead jazz musician in myriad settings. Over the years he has performed with Gary Bartz, Billy Hart, Capillary Action to name a few.

Kevin McHugh, keys, composition
Matt Adomeit, bass
Tristan Renfrow, drums

For this tour Kevin contacted long time friend and collaborator John Dikeman (they met while both living in Cairo, Egypt) to compile the ideal ensemble to perform his compositions. John has performed with everyone from Godspeed You! Black Emperor and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra to Jameszoo with the Metropole Orkest. He also has regular groups with William Parker and Hamid Drake, is a founding member of Cactus Truck, and is a member of the Dutch Collective Doek. He was said to have the "most powerful voice in the Dutch jazz music of the last decade" In Jazzism magazine.

Matt Adomeit and Tristan Renfrow have worked together extensively in the anarchist uber-jazz band Morgan Freeman. "Nostalgia for post-90’s indie-punk-rock and a free-jazz ethos collaborate to deliver an unabashed deconstruction of transparent compositions. Morgan Freeman represents no more (or less) than the embodiment of the human condition in all of its glory, despair and contradiction." Their ability to deliver instrumental virtuosity and musical erudition with a willingness to explode ideas make them a perfect match for this ensemble.

This transatlantic trio combines musical sensibilities derived from their experiences in two world capitals of improvised music, Chicago and Amsterdam. Dave Rempis and Frank Rosaly, both longtime staples of the Chicago scene, have partnered for more than 15 years, most significantly in the Rempis Percussion Quartet and Rempis/Rosaly Duo. The two met guitarist/bassist Jasper Stadhouders at the Moers Festival in 2009 where the three shared a stage on the legendary “morning sessions.” Despite being only 18 years old, Stadhouders was a presence to be dealt with, his energy and aesthetic already developed into a cohesive whole.

The trio will present their new album ICOCI, released by Aerophonic Records: listen

Henry Fraser (b. 1991) is a bassist, composer, and improviser from Boston, MA. He received his BA from New England Conservatory of Music in the spring of 2014, where he studied with Cecil McBee, John McNeil, Dave Holland, Anthony Coleman, & Ted Reichman. Henry's parallel pursuits of technical mastery and novel experimentation have put him at the forefront of the experimental music scene in New York and beyond, playing at such venues as Moers Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Roulette Intermedium and Joe's Pub. Henry has worked with Joe Morris, Tony Malaby, Mat Maneri, Weasel Walter, Axel Dörner, Judith Berkson, Ryan Power, Charmaine Lee, Chris Pitsiokos, and many others. Current projects include CP Unit, Brandon Seabrook Trio, Anthony Coleman Trio, The Full Salon, and solo music for the double bass.

Ada Rave is an Argentinian saxophonist, improviser and composer. Her work is focused into the development of the sounds of her instrument and her personal narrative point of view into the real time composition. She is based in Amsterdam to continue expanding her personal work and passion for the Free Improvisation. She has collaborated in many records and as a composer and leader recorded two albums: "Los Ritos del Sueño" (2008) with her quintet Proyecto Orgánico Rave / "La Continuidad" (Pai 2012) with Ada Rave Quartet. She has participated in several festivals: Artacts 17 - St Johann; Free Flow Festival 2015 - Altamura; DOEK #12 International Improvisation Festival 2014 - Amsterdam; II Mar del Plata Jazz Festival 2012 - Argentina, 3rd La Plata Contemporary Music Festival 2011 - Argentina; Buenos Aires Jazz Festival 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 - Argentina; VII Rosario Jazz Festival 2003 - Argentina. With the Ada Rave Trio (w/ De Joode and Hein) she has recently published the album "The Sea, the Storm and the Full Moon".

WILBERT DE JOODE (1955) is currently one of the most active bass players on the European improvised music circuit. He began working in groups that improvised within a jazz framework. Other musicians were soon drawn to his idiosyncratic style, and in the mid 80s he played in groups led by Vera Vingerhoeds, Armando Cairo and Ig Henneman where he further developed his improvisation skills. He came into contact with such musicians as J.C.Tans, Rinus Groeneveld, Michiel Braam, Han Bennink, Han Buhrs (Schismatics) and Ab Baars. A personal tone colour, exploration of the outer registers, quirky improvisations and the use of gut strings contribute to an instantly recognizable and intriguing sound.
